Welcome
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to our school. I believe in our school community’s potential to achieve remarkable things and in my message below, I will summarise some key principles about our school and how they come together to ensure our pupils leave primary school ready to lead happy and successful lives.
Our School Community - Here at Roxbourne, our committed staff, supportive parents, and exemplary pupils work together in an environment defined by high expectations. Every member of our community is dedicated to ensuring our pupils receive a fantastic education, preparing them to lead happy and successful lives.
Exemplary Behaviour - We are very proud of our school ethos, which visitors often notice. Our children behave very well because they are keen to learn. This creates an environment where teachers can focus on teaching, and pupils can focus on learning.
Curriculum - Our curriculum is academically rigorous, carefully designed and carefully delivered. Our mornings are structured, and it is during this time we teach phonics / reading, writing and mathematics. Our afternoons are dedicated to achieving a broad and balanced curriculum, and this is when children are taught the wider curriculum.
Specialist Teaching - We adopt a specialist model for parts of the day. We have specialist teachers in PE, music, strings and RE and pupils in Year 4 - Year 6 benefit from specialist lessons in reading, writing and mathematics.
Ectra Curricular Programme - We know that academic rigour is not enough. It is the reason why we invest significant resources into our extra-curricular programme. Every half-term, we take advantage of our great city, by leading inspiring educational visits into and around London to visit some of our greatest museums and landmarks. In addition, pupils will now engage in PE and RE Educational Visits too! We also run a four-year residential programme which starts in Y3 as an in-school sleepover and culminates in four day multi-activity residential. Every week, we run approximately 30 clubs, ranging from chess classes to cookery classes. From Year 3 to Year 6, every child embarks on a unique musical journey through our four-year violin and strings programme, with two of those years dedicated to additional orchestra practice.
Our children go on to study at some of the most prestigious schools - At the end of the 7 years pupils spend with us, our pupils go on to achieve great things at secondary school and beyond. This is testament to the hard work of our children, staff, parents and wider community.
Our pursuit for excellence is something which I look forward to celebrating with you in the coming weeks, months and years.
